Dear PCHA Members,

Please see the message below from the New England Chapter of Public Works regarding the Line of Duty Death Benefit Bill.

We are writing to you regarding the Line of Duty Death Benefit Bill.

Senator Eric Lesser has submitted an amendment #131 in the Senate budget.  This will allow Public Works employees to be included in the Massachsetts Line of Duty Death Benefit Bill as other 1st Responders are -- such as police and fire. If they are killed in the line of duty, their families receive a one time $300,000 survivor benefit.  This bill will make public works employees eligible. Presidential Directive 8 by President Bush identifies Public Works as a 1st Responder and should be included in in the Death in Line of Duty Bill.

We are asking you to contact Senate President Karen Spilka **** Karen.Spilka@masenate.gov

And Senate Ways and Means Chair Michael Rodrigues ****

Michael.Rodrigues@masenate.gov

In addition to those key Senators we'd like you to contact your State Senator and him/her to support Senator Lesser's amendment #131.

Ask for their support for expanding line of duty death benefits to public sector employees that daily put themselves in harm's way to ensure and improve the quality of life for the residents of the Commonwealth.

Directors should also contact the State Senator who represents the Town you work in as well as your own Town's State Senator.

You can find the name of your state Senator and contact info simply by entering your home address on this link.

Thank you on behalf of the New England Chapter of Public Works
